PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Directors of Nursing Services must be knowledgeable and possess the skills needed to motivate and direct staff, make the most of their limited resources, and keep abreast of the rapidly changing needs of the profession. The Director of Nursing Program will provide the opportunity to learn new skills, fine-tune existing knowledge, explore value-based leadership, and operationalize skills and competencies that are needed to be a Director of Nursing Services in today’s SNF setting.

Applicants must be an RN employed in a Skilled Nursing Facility. The course is six three-hour sessions. Participants selected are required to attend all six sessions.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify and enhance the competencies needed to be an effective nurse leader
  • Articulate the standards of care and practice of licensed Nurses in SNFs
  • Understand the federal requirements of participation along with the New York State regulations and how they relate to the survey process
  • Facilitate an effective Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement process
  • Understand the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM)
  • Identify risk areas and discuss Human Resource Management & Emergency Preparedness
  • Effective Communication

PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS:

LISA VOLKLISA M. VOLK, RN, BPS, LNHA
Lisa is an RN with 40 years of experience in the long-term care setting in both the proprietary and not-for-profit sectors. She has held roles as a Nurse Educator, Director of Nursing, Administrator, and Executive Director. With a strong operational background, Ms. Volk understands the link between the Nurse Educator’s role and the facility’s success.

Jackie PappalardiJACKIE PAPPALARDI, RN, BSN
Jackie is an RN with over 40 years of experience in the public and private health care delivery system. She has demonstrated leadership and management experience at the state level, including her position as the Director of the Division of Nursing Home and ICF/IID Surveillance at the NYSDOH, which enables her to work closely with providers across the healthcare continuum. During her tenure as Director, Jackie was instrumental in the development and implementation of the NYSDOH Nurse Aide Training Program.

Tarrah QuinlanTARRAH A. QUINLAN, RN, BSN
Tarrah is an RN with over 20 years of experience in multiple healthcare settings, specializing in long-term care. She is an expert in regulatory compliance, with experience as a nursing home surveyor and most recently serving as the Director of the Bureau of Quality Assurance and Surveillance at the NYSDOH. In her role as Director, she was responsible for the oversight of the NYSDOH Nurse Aide Training Program.
