Stephen B. Hanse, Esq., has served as President & CEO of NYSHFA | NYSCAL and President of the Foundation for Quality Care since January 2017. He formerly held the position of Vice President & Counsel for the Association beginning in 2013. Prior to joining NYSHFA | NYSCAL Stephen was with the law firm of Featherstonhaugh, Wiley & Clyne where he represented healthcare organizations and Fortune 500 companies before New York’s Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government. Earlier in his career, Stephen was Vice President of the Energy Association of New York State and held several policy positions in the New York State Senate and Assembly. Stephen is active in the American Health Care Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Board of the Albany Law School Government Law Center and the Board of the Albany Law Elder Law and Special Needs Subcommittee. He is admitted to the Bar in New York State, the United States District Court for the Northern District, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Carl Pucci

Carl Pucci joined NYSHFA in 2005 and serves as the Chief Financial Officer.  His responsibilities include financial management of NYSHFA and its subsidiaries as well as providing Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement guidance to the membership.  He has a BBA degree in business administration from Siena College, is past president of the NENY Healthcare Financial Management Association and serves on NYSARC’s Montgomery County Board of Directors.

In this role Jackie directs the overall management of the Foundation for Quality Care including the development and implementation of all its educational programs, research projects and fundraising activities. Jackie is a registered nurse with more than 40 years of service in the public and private health care delivery system. Her experiences include leadership positions to achieve accreditation, develop and implement emergency management programs and build strong quality improvement practices.  She has demonstrated leadership and management experience at the state level enabling her to work closely with providers across the healthcare continuum.  She provides leadership to NYSHFA-NYSCAL on policy guidance, member operation services and the direction for the clinical, quality and education programs for nursing home and assisted living providers.  Jackie is responsible for program development and coordination of the Long Term Care Leadership Institute. Jackie serves on the American Health Care Association’s Quality Committee and Emergency Preparedness Committee has presented at the region, state and national conferences.

Scott Jackson joined NYSHFA/NYSCAL in 1992 as Education and Convention Coordinator and in 1995 was promoted to Director of Education and Conference Services. Scott manages all of the Association’s education programs, conferences, expos and sponsorships, as well as all other Association events, including the Annual Legislative Visitation Day and the Foundation for Quality Care’s Golf Tournament. Scott holds a BS in Human Resource Management from the State University of New York, Empire State College and an A.A.S. in Physical Education from Fulton Montgomery Community College. Scott is a member and Past Chair of the Empire State Society of Association Executives and has served on their Board of Directors since 2000. He has volunteered for the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, coordinating their membership drive and Trade/Home Show, and was the Co-Chair of the Dr. Michael Sheridan’s Golf for a Cure Tournament.

Lisa Volk

Lisa M. Volk RN, B.P.S., LNHA, joined NYSHFA in 2016. She has over 30 years of experience in the long term care setting in both the proprietary and not for profit sectors. She has held roles as Director of Nursing, Administrator and Executive Director. Lisa has extensive knowledge in team building, employee engagement and innovative practices, which lead facilities to achieve consistent high quality outcomes and revenue enhancement. During her career, her team was recognized by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) as a Quality Award Winner utilizing Malcolm Baldrige criteria and the Island Peer Review Organization (IPRO) for Excellence in Care and Service Award. Lisa has served as an adjunct instructor for the Foundation for Quality Care Leadership Institute and was in the Foundation’s first Administrator Leadership Program.

Laurie Robertson

Laurie Robertson joined the Association in January 2005 after 16 years in the public sector working for a school district and nine years as an operations manager for a candy wholesaler. As the Director of Administration at NYSHFA/NYSCAL, Laurie is responsible for supporting the President and CEO and Board of Directors; managing office operations and support staff; human resources; membership, and accounts receivable.

Joanne O’Connor

Joanne O’Connor joined NYSHFA in 1996 as Administrative Assistant for the Communications Department and is currently the Communications and Membership Coordinator.  Her responsibilities include coordinating the NYSHFA and NYSCAL recognition awards, scholarships, and Art from the Heart programs.  In addition, Joanne, is a trained master user of the membership database with expertise in report writing. She also works with the executive staff on membership recruitment and dues; the Associate Member Program; and membership and media communications.

Jessica Van Wormer

Jessica Van Wormer joined NYSHFA/NYSCAL in April of 2019. She is an  award-winning designer with more than 20 years of experience in creative development and strategic marketing. She has proven her ability to produce best-fit solutions for multi-faceted projects across a number of industries varying from pharmaceuticals to children’s toy products. Jessica obtained both her degrees (AA in Advertising Design and BFA in Graphic Design) at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Her past career focus as a creative leader in the Trade Show and Event industry will be put to good use in facilitating the Association’s marketing needs spanning print, digital and large format.

Janice Haney

Janice Haney joined NYSHFA in 2015. Her responsibilities include general ledger, financial reporting, accounts receivable and accounts payable, and the finances related to grant programs. Janice received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Siena College, master’s degree in accounting from College of St. Rose, graduate certificate in Taxation from Golden Gate University, and holds certifications in Nonprofit Accounting and Healthcare Financial Management.

Erin Fitzgerald

Erin joined the Association in May 2016 after 14 years working with a state business association for engineering. As the Assistant for Education & Conference Planning at NYSHFA/NYSCAL, Erin is responsible for supporting the Director of Education & Conference Planning in all aspects of planning and implementation of meetings, events and educational programing. In addition, she is a master user of the membership & registration database. Erin is also the coordinator of CEU Credit Approvals and the CE Registry with the National Association of LTC Administrator Boards.

Nancy Knapp joined NYSHFA in 2010 after a successful career in the insurance industry working for CUNA Mutual Group for twenty-six years providing thorough and skillful support to senior executives, sales and service staff. Nancy’s experience in providing executive level support services is put to good use as she currently provides support to the Executive Director of the Foundation for Quality Care, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Clinical and Quality Services as well as to the Director of Government Affairs and the President/CEO.

Melony Spock began as a part-time program assistant in April of 2007 working on various projects including the Warfarin Safety Study, Customer Satisfaction Grant and the Mouth Care Without a Battle grant project. In February 2019, Melony took on a full-time position to coordinate special projects and assist with the Foundation for Quality Care. Melony previously worked as the Education and Membership Manager for PS21 in Chatham, NY where she developed an education program for youth and seniors. In her free time, Melony is very active in her community. She has served as President of the Board of Education for Chatham Central School District and serves in an elected position as a Chatham Village Trustee.

Linda O’Connell joined NYSCAL in January 2020 following an 18-year career in the Adult Care Facilities/Assisted Living Bureau within the NYS Department of Health. Linda brings to NYSCAL an extensive knowledge of ACF/Assisted Living regulations, policy interpretations, Residency Agreements, ePOC, and the inspection and surveillance process, among other regulations, policies and procedures.
