Values of Membership

The New York State Health Facilities Association/New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSHFA/NYSCAL) is a member-driven association of providers of long term care services, caring for individuals of all ages in proprietary, not-for-profit, and government-sponsored skilled nursing, post-acute, rehab, adult care and assisted living communities across the state of New York.  NYSHFA/NYSCAL is dedicated to assisting its members in achieving excellence through leadership, professional development and active involvement in the shaping of public policy. Through communication, education and collaboration, NYSHFA/NYSCAL will position its members to be recognized by government, health care community and general public as industry experts in quality long term care services in New York State.

NYSHFA/NYSCAL is the New York affiliate of the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). AHCA/NCAL is a non-profit federation of affiliate state health organizations, together representing more than 12,000 non-profit and for-profit nursing facility, assisted living, developmentally-disabled, and sub-acute providers that care for approximately one million elderly and disabled individuals each day.

AHCA/NCAL represents the long term care community to the nation at large –to government, business leaders, and the general public. AHCA/NCAL serve as a force for change, providing information, education, and administrative tools that enhance quality at every level. As part of our extensive portfolio of member services, AHCA/NCAL maintains legislative, regulatory and public affairs. Our dedicated staff work both internally and externally to assist member providers, the government, and the general public. Skilled Nursing Membership Benefits

Legislative Affairs/Regulatory
The Association employs a full -time lobbyist/lawyer providing dedicated representation at the state and national level, addressing legislative and regulatory issues facing the adult care/assisted living industry in New York. We are known for working collaboratively with other associations and the NYS Department of Health to achieve a superior legislative platform for the betterment of the profession and the residents we serve.

Education and Professional Development
Through statewide educational seminars, members have the opportunity to network and share ideas at regional meetings, committee roundtables, our annual conference and trade show; and, our Fall conference.

Members attend at special discounted rates.

Through our Foundation for Quality Care (FQC), we provide grant-funded training to Administrators, Nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Activity Directors and other direct line staff. Grant-funded programs also provide Quality Improvement and research demonstration projects for the Skilled Nursing Facility and Assisted Living industry statewide.

Audio-conferences, seminars and webinars conducted throughout the year offering CEUs to ACF Administrators, Nurses, Case Managers/Social Workers and Activity Directors. All CEUs for owners and administrators are approved through the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards.

Clinical, Quality and Operational Support
The Association offers professional resources (supported by two Master-Prepared Registered Nurses) for clinical, quality, operational, regulatory and survey issues, while providing input and advice to the New York State Department of Health on policy and directives.

Reimbursement and Financial Services
Monitors and interprets the financial impact to members of all State and Federal reimbursement matters, while advocating on matters such as Medicaid, managed long term care, ALP rates, HCBS Rule and other fiscal issues.

Communications and Public Relations
Members receive professional publications, media alerts and weekly e-newsletters that provide timely Department of Health updates and other information pertinent to assisted living and skilled nursing providers. Recognition award programs and scholarships are available for member employees, volunteers and residents.
