Who We Are

History

The New York State Health Facilities Association (NYSHFA) has been championing quality care since its founding in Syracuse, New York. Originally named the New York State Nursing Home Association, our journey began in 1947 when a dedicated group of nursing home administrators envisioned a statewide organization to support their mission of enhancing care for the chronically ill and aging New York population.

By 1949, their vision became a reality, and the New York State Nursing Home Association was officially established. Initially representing nursing homes primarily in Westchester, Buffalo, and Syracuse, the organization quickly grew, fostering collaboration and innovation among providers.

In 1973, the Association broadened its scope and adopted the name New York State Health Facilities Association, Inc. (NYSHFA) to better reflect its expanding mission. This evolution continued in 2009 with the creation of the New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSCAL), extending our support to adult care and assisted living communities.
