The LTC Leadership Institute is a state-of-the-art leadership continuing education program for professionals in management positions in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.
The goal of the LTC Leadership Institute is to improve quality care by preparing leaders and potential leaders to meet new job requirements in a changing healthcare environment and to facilitate career advancement in areas of shortage. Skills developed and learned in the Leadership Institute have enabled participants to advance in their careers and to transfer these skills to the other staff at their facilities.
Programs offered by the LTC Leadership Institute include:
Administrator Leadership Program
This eight-week course is for newly licensed Nursing Home Administrators to enhance their skills as they apply their knowledge in the overall management of a skilled nursing facility. Participants that complete the program received 40 CEUs through the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators (NAB).
Assisted Living Executive Director Leadership Program
This five-day leadership course guides the Assisted Living Administrator through the regulatory, financial, human resources, customer care service and support, and leadership domains for the purpose of building administrative knowledge and skills. Participants will receive a Foundation for Quality Care Certificate of Completion.
Assisted Living Nurse Leadership Program
This four-day course serves the nurse leader in the assisted living community to enhance the quality of care and life for both the residents and the staff. Research has demonstrated that communities with successful nurse leaders, who manage daily operations and staff with critical leadership skills such as effective communication, conflict management and resolution, coaching and mentoring skills, have both highly satisfied residents and staff and lower employee turnover. Assisted living nurse leaders serve as the critical link that connects the staff, residents, family members, and community resources to consistently provide quality care to the residents they serve. This program combines multiple teaching methods including classroom lectures, interactive discussions, and small group exercises.

Caregivers in Long-Term Care Facilities – Recognition & Education
This is a program to celebrate and recognize CNAs and TNAs working in long-term care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will be interactive and take place via Zoom.

Director of Nursing Leadership Program
This six-week course is for new Directors of Nursing or aspiring Directors of Nursing who work in skilled nursing facilities. The course uses systems theory to guide leadership.

First Line Manager Leadership Program
This eight-day program is for all department managers and supervisors which provides the opportunity to learn new leadership skills, fine-tune existing knowledge, explore supervisory strategies, and operationally apply the skills and competencies that are needed to be an effective First Line Manager/Supervisor in today’s SNF setting.
First Line Manager Trainer Program
This course is provided for experienced nurse educators to become updated in the current First Line Manager Program curriculum, and then serve as trainers and facilitators at the regional programs. This program is provided as ongoing quality improvement and updates to incorporate the most current topics and needs for managers that receive training under the Long-Term Care Leadership Program. Participants who successfully complete the course receive 9 continuing education units from the New York State Nurses Association.
RN Nurse Educator Program
This four-day program will provide the opportunity to learn new skills, fine-tune existing knowledge, explore adult learning strategies, and operationalize the skills and competencies that are needed to be an effective Nurse Educator in today’s SNF / AL setting. This program has been approved by the NYSDOH to meet the “Train the Trainer” requirements for the Nurse AideTraining Program.

Quality Improvement Series
The goal of this educational program is to provide a comprehensive array of resources, skills training and educational support for health care professionals working in long term care settings. Each of the sessions is grounded in evidence and values-based quality improvement methods and designed to provide practical tools and knowledge that can immediately be applied in long term care settings. This program series is for long term care professionals that have the ability to influence and improve the quality of “care and caring” in their organizations. (LNHAs, DONs, RNs and other quality specialists)

Clinical Programs
End-Of-Life Training for the Caregiver Program
This 4 hour Train the Trainer program provides two educational sessions:
- One for direct care staff to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who work with dying patients by providing a multidisciplinary educational experience, as well as improving the awareness of ethical issues. This program will also focus on helping staff cope with many of the issues surrounding death and dying.
- The second session will provide an overview of the core elements of an end of life program designed for the professional clinical team

Paid Feeding Assistant Program
This program will provide the needed information as defined by the New York State Department of Health Paid Feeding Assistant curriculum. The knowledge gained by all participants will assist in the utilization of the approved Paid Feeding Assistant program at their facility. This course is consistent with all state and federal regulations for nursing homes and is designed for Nurses, Directors of Nursing, Nurse Educators, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.
